The Regev Program for Excellence in Teaching is a national program that operates in collaboration with the Ministry of Education at 22 teaching colleges and aims to promote education in Israel through the training, nurturing, and promotion of outstanding teachers with a broad and long-term professional and educational impact. The program is designed to foster a community of teachers who will be educational role models, demonstrate professional and social leadership, and be characterized by inspiring creative innovation.
At the Sakhnin Academic College, the Regev program plays a vital role in training teachers who are also leaders from Arab society who will be entrusted with educating the leaders of the future generation and will contribute to the adaptation of excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit within the schools in Arab society.
Regav is a comprehensive program providing a broad framework for teaching students who come from different departments within the college and specialize in a variety of subjects and disciplines:
- English for Elementary and Secondary School
- Science for Elementary School
- Arabic for Elementary School
- Mathematics for Elementary and Secondary School
- Multi-age Special Education
- Early Childhood
In addition to the academic commitments and various training components that apply to each student in their respective track, the Regev program also includes unique courses, workshops, and seminars, unique practical experience, a mentoring project, social involvement, preparation for integration into the education system, as well as Intercollegiate courses, activities, and meetings intended for Regev students from across the country.
The exclusive teaching program will address a variety of topics, including diversity and multiculturalism in Israeli society, pedagogical innovation, educational values-based leadership, familiarity with the education system, and systemic literacy.
The curriculum consists of all training components of one’s chosen specialization (see training components details on the pages of the various departments), in addition to the unique Regev program commitments, which amount to 22 hours a week, as detailed below.
The duration of the program is 3 years, at the end of which students will receive a bachelor’s degree in teaching and a teaching certificate (compared to 4 years in a regular track). The program includes a total exemption from tuition and additional scholarships, subject to meeting certain conditions (as detailed below).
The program places particular emphasis on preparing students for the educational challenges of the current era, which is characterized by unexpected transitions between face-to-face, online, and blended learning modes, and transforming them into change agents who will pass on the knowledge they have accumulated in the field. In this spirit, the Regev curriculum includes all the courses taught as part of the National Prizm Program for Digital Learning (Hebrew). Regev students will also be integrated into MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and various courses in techno-pedagogy, which emphasize digital tools in the age of online teaching.
The program will also include at least one of the following components:
- Course(s) to be recognized as part of a master’s degree.
- Training that provides a certificate for an additional occupation related to soft skills and can contribute to the specialization in teaching and the development of an educational career (e.g., group facilitation).
- A personal mentor whose goal is empowerment and personal development.
- In-depth acquaintance and close work with an officeholder in the education system – school, local authority, or Ministry of Education – thereby providing a deep understanding of the position and the field.
In addition, this year, the program will include evaluation research that will examine the quality of the teaching, learning, and evaluation process in the unique courses of the Prizm program in which all the excellent students were integrated. The research is designed to understand how faculty and students in the program perceive the innovative teaching, learning, and assessment methods incorporated in it compared to the traditional teaching methods they were familiar with in the pre Covid-19 period.
A deep commitment to the world of teaching and education will characterize program graduates, which will be reflected in a deep familiarity and advanced research and learning capacities of their field of expertise; advanced teaching skills and exceptional pedagogical abilities; aspiration for personal and professional development in various positions and pathways of influence within the education system; and an impressive educational personality that serves as a role model for creativity, mental flexibility, systemic coping abilities, the ability to operate in a multicultural environment, social sensitivity and an on-going desire to contribute to society and the environment.
