Education studies at Sakhnin College form the basis for training college graduates. The courses in education studies are taught throughout the undergraduate years in all tracks and departments. They include theoretical courses (philosophy of education, sociology of education, educational psychology, the teacher as an educator of values, a seminar addressing issues in Arab education in Israel, and more), and practicable-applicable courses (teaching methods, evaluation and measurement, qualitative and quantitative research, academic literacy, and more), totaling 12 hours.
The primary purpose of the theoretical courses is to provide all our graduates, the teachers of the future, with a conceptual infrastructure that will allow them to delve deeper into the essence of the pedagogical educational practice and to shape their own “Pedagogic Creed” that will accompany them throughout their career. These theoretical courses are designed to help future teachers thoroughly know the field of teaching and education, the students, and the school as a social organization, and to learn about optimal educational climate, classroom management, meaningful differential teaching, and more.
The main goal of the practicable-applicable courses is to enable students to acquire skills and abilities that will allow them to carry out their work professionally and efficiently, and among other things, to manage a classroom; develop teaching, assessment, and evaluation strategies; handle unusual situations; to perfect communications with students and parents, and more. Particular emphasis is placed on encouraging the students to become “teachers who research their practice”, who can reflect, conduct action research for efficiency and productivity, acquire the skills of educational entrepreneurship, and intelligent and productive use of digital platforms.
