About

The Regev Program for Excellence in Teaching is a national program that operates in collaboration with the Ministry of Education at 22 teaching colleges and aims to promote education in Israel through the training, nurturing, and promotion of outstanding teachers with a broad and long-term professional and educational impact. The program is designed to foster a community of teachers who will be educational role models, demonstrate professional and social leadership, and be characterized by inspiring creative innovation.

At the Sakhnin Academic College, the Regev program plays a vital role in training teachers who are also leaders from Arab society who will be entrusted with educating the leaders of the future generation and will contribute to the adaptation of excellence, innovation, and entrepreneurial spirit within the schools in Arab society.

Regav is a comprehensive program providing a broad framework for teaching students who come from different departments within the college and specialize in a variety of subjects and disciplines:

  • English for Elementary and Secondary School
  • Science for Elementary School
  • Arabic for Elementary School
  • Mathematics for Elementary and Secondary School
  • Multi-age Special Education
  • Early Childhood

In addition to the academic commitments and various training components that apply to each student in their respective track, the Regev program also includes unique courses, workshops, and seminars, unique practical experience, a mentoring project, social involvement, preparation for integration into the education system, as well as Intercollegiate courses, activities, and meetings intended for Regev students from across the country.

The exclusive teaching program will address a variety of topics, including diversity and multiculturalism in Israeli society, pedagogical innovation, educational values-based leadership, familiarity with the education system, and systemic literacy.

The curriculum consists of all training components of one’s chosen specialization (see training components details on the pages of the various departments), in addition to the unique Regev program commitments, which amount to 22 hours a week, as detailed below.

The duration of the program is 3 years, at the end of which students will receive a bachelor’s degree in teaching and a teaching certificate (compared to 4 years in a regular track). The program includes a total exemption from tuition and additional scholarships, subject to meeting certain conditions (as detailed below).

The program places particular emphasis on preparing students for the educational challenges of the current era, which is characterized by unexpected transitions between face-to-face, online, and blended learning modes, and transforming them into change agents who will pass on the knowledge they have accumulated in the field. In this spirit, the Regev curriculum includes all the courses taught as part of the National Prizm Program for Digital Learning (Hebrew). Regev students will also be integrated into MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) and various courses in techno-pedagogy, which emphasize digital tools in the age of online teaching.

The program will also include at least one of the following components:

  • Course(s) to be recognized as part of a master’s degree.
  • Training that provides a certificate for an additional occupation related to soft skills and can contribute to the specialization in teaching and the development of an educational career (e.g., group facilitation).
  • A personal mentor whose goal is empowerment and personal development.
  • In-depth acquaintance and close work with an officeholder in the education system – school, local authority, or Ministry of Education – thereby providing a deep understanding of the position and the field.

In addition, this year, the program will include evaluation research that will examine the quality of the teaching, learning, and evaluation process in the unique courses of the Prizm program in which all the excellent students were integrated. The research is designed to understand how faculty and students in the program perceive the innovative teaching, learning, and assessment methods incorporated in it compared to the traditional teaching methods they were familiar with in the pre Covid-19 period.

A deep commitment to the world of teaching and education will characterize program graduates, which will be reflected in a deep familiarity and advanced research and learning capacities of their field of expertise; advanced teaching skills and exceptional pedagogical abilities; aspiration for personal and professional development in various positions and pathways of influence within the education system; and an impressive educational personality that serves as a role model for creativity, mental flexibility, systemic coping abilities, the ability to operate in a multicultural environment, social sensitivity and an on-going desire to contribute to society and the environment.

Students and Graduates tell

Lama Hassan (Najam)
studied in the 2017-2020 program cycle.
“Thanks to the programs’ training I was able to improve my teaching abilities, strengthen my personality, and most importantly pay attention to many things related to teaching in general and to Arab schools in particular, which seem to always be in front of our eyes, but we have never addressed them.”
Maram Krakara
studied in the 2015-2018 program cycle.
“Following my participation in the program I was given priority in teaching placement over the rest of the graduates, so I started working as soon as I finished my degree. Thanks to the program, I was easily accepted for a master’s degree even before I completed my undergraduate degree, and now I am working on my research thesis so that I can continue my academic journey.”
Sondos Tarbia
studied in the 2015-2017 program cycle.
Today she works as a teacher in a Jewish school. “The program taught me to view teaching more positively and work out of desire and love for the field, and to convey this to the students. And indeed, this happens in the field: I cope well with all the difficulties and my students are in love with the lessons I teach them.”
Anam Saaida
32 years old, married, and mother of four
Specializing in mathematics for elementary school “Thanks to the Excellent Students’ Program, during my first and second year I participated in Excellent Program conferences at other colleges of education in Israel. Integrating with students from all echelons of society contributed to my self-confidence. When I participated in the intercollegiate course for excellent students "Writing Education in Regev", I was the only student from Sakhnin Academic College and the only Arab student. My participation in the course gave me strength and courage, and I was proud of myself because I was able to be part of the group and express my thoughts and opinions.”
Randa Lulu
mother of four from Nazareth
Specializing in early childhood education “The program shaped my goals and helped me achieve them. I greatly appreciate the academic staff and the college management. Their support very much helped me to reach my objective and realize my dreams.”
Hiba Yassin
Specializing in the English language for secondary school
“I’ve been studying in the program for two years now and must say that despite the heady load of assignments and projects, the program's transparent and optimistic vision of the future, and its proper planning, give me the faith and confidence I need as a student, and will need later on as a teacher.”

Certificate Plus - "Group Facilitation" Certificate Studies

Starting from the 2022-23 academic year, the excellent students will, in addition to their studies for the bachelor’s degree, also study certificate studies in group facilitation, which will open an additional career path for them. Various experts in the field will conduct the studies that will be carried out as an intensive summer course. The certificate will be awarded at the same time as the degree certificate.

Mentoring Project

The students in the excellence program also participate in a mentoring project in which senior students support new students. In the first year, students are accompanied by mentors from a more advanced year; In the second year, students become mentors themselves and support new students in their integration into the college and the program; and in the third year, students become the program leaders, and alongside their social involvement activity, workshop activity and intercollegiate courses, they continue to assist in the mentoring of the new students.

Intercollegiate Activity

Regev students take intercollegiate courses designed for excellent students from the colleges of education in Israel. Participation in these courses sharpens multicultural insights essential for educators in Israeli society. The meetings are held at the Mofet Institute or one of the colleges of education. Information about these courses can be found on The National Regev Program Intercollegiate Courses Website (Hebrew). In addition, program students participate in MOOC courses in which the college is a partner.

In addition, every year, 3 intercollegiate national conferences are held as part of the program, the topics of which are determined by the Regev national coordinators. These conferences constitute the culmination of the learning process and are held in collaboration with various departments of the Ministry of Education. They are designed to expose students to a variety of systems and institutions in the education system; to provide students with an opportunity to learn about the educational vision of prominent educational leaders and to shape their vision; to create learning-teaching experiences beyond the classroom with a variety of audiences and in a variety of methods; to experience inclusive learning and project-based or place-based learning; to create a multicultural encounter with excellent students from all over the country and opportunities for joint discourse; to enable students to share knowledge with colleagues from other colleges and uniquely summarize the learning process. Before each conference, students meet with the program coordinator at the college several times to get ready and prepare.

Preparation for Entry into the Education System

As part of the aspiration to promote a suitable and optimal placement, the excellent students are integrated into the Teachers Induction Unit operating at the college starting from the second year. Within its framework, students participate in events, seminars, and lectures dealing with the entry into teaching process.

In addition, beginning in the third year, students are integrated into the “Entry to Jewish Schools” course held at the college in collaboration with the Merchavim Institute, which enriches them and prepares them for integration into teaching in Jewish schools.
